Planning for Film Opening
When I first started thinking about what I want to express and include in my film opening I had many ideas so I began writhing them all down and only later organizing them. I tried to borrow ideas from some of the movie directors or films that I enjoyed, but also come up with my own.
I decided to work with one of my friends and colleagues in media studies, so we could share ideas and thoughts and come up with an exact plan for our film opening. We worked together and decided on some general ideas we would like to include but also on the script for the first two minutes of a film.
Some of our initial ideas are: (we might not use them all, also we will ad others)
-using sitcom sound effects that are abruptly cut (like in the 1975 music video for "Somebody Else")
-having one male character and focusing on his personality and behaviour
-adding something unique to either his costume or look
-the main idea is that of a dream or surreal imagery
-the setting will be small and confined, will contain a bed to suggest the idea of sleeping and dreams
-breaking the fourth wall
-long shots to create unease, point of view shots
-having a poem recited
-the same person making different choices, and showing the two different versions of life that result from this
-walls will be very present and shown throughout the film to suggest confinement
