Minor task - Website

Creating a website for a short film is a good way to promote it and give detailed information about the film to a large group of people. It can be accessed easily and it can be created in an interactive way that is appealing to the public and that might convince them to watch the film. It can also be a very specific way of recreating the atmosphere of the film, using music, images and videos, giving the audience a taste of what the film is about.

Some conventions of these types of websites are the artistic and thematic visual elements, a lot of attention is put on the aesthetics of the site. The nominations, selections and awards from film festivals are also shown on the home page, usually overlayed on an image of the main character. Also, if the film has original music, it is often played on the website. The cast is presented in greater detail and the production cast might also be given credit. There can be several links to other social media sites, or news about the film.

I noticed that there is a difference between the sites of feature films and short films. For example, the website that I studied last year for "American Honey" had a lot of creative elements, while short film sites are not as complex. Also, there are quite few individual short film websites. There are sites that have links to different short films, with reviews and genre. For example shortoftheweek.com and filmshortage.com. The creators of short films don't often put a lot of effort into a personal site, because the public are less likely to search for the specific film than for a list of short films on a more general site, like the ones mentioned above.
